“Always believe in the run”

As legendary and twice as hard as the 20k from Brussels, I just finished the Brussels Marathon this afternoon after 3:51:01.

23:53 – Heading back from a Morda show in Luxemburg. Thought I could sleep in the car but some people just keep on talking.
02:01 – Arrived in Brussels, getting all the material out of the car, such a drag. Immediately went to sleep.
07:50 – My alarm went off, way too soon. Head to the shower.
08:01 – Eating a pasta portion, gingerbread and drink a lot. Keepers Of The Faith is raging through the vinyl.
08:32 – Head to the start. I have the fortune to live at 150m from the start.
09:00 – Start of the Brussels marathon. Weather was perfect, feeling good.
09:15 – Did Rue de la Loi at a good pace and heading to Avenue Louise. Tunnels. First challenge of today.
10:30 – Nice running through La Cambre. I joined the 3:59 pacers.
10:55 – The time I passed the 21k sign, left the pacers behind and kept going at a steady pace.
11:05 – Tervuren, such tricky inclines.
11:30 – First victims. People walking. I was like ‘meh’. Keep going.
12:15 – Think it was the time I was at Avenue Tervuren, 36k, I knew this was going to be a hard one.
12:40 – Around 40k, squeezed the rest out of my gel, mind on focus, and heading to the Grand Place.
12:51 – Finish in sight, what an entrance, what a beautiful square, I love Brussels.

I learned a lot again today: stop starting too slow and take the risk to go with pacers immediatly. Also, it is always better in pursuit than to be pursued. Keep drinking. Sunscreen, it can help. And I have the best supporters.
