“Standing alone in the wind and rain”

One of the advantages of running is, that it’s a sport you can perform almost anywhere. In the city, in the forest, in the park during lunch-break, and if necessary even on the treadmill. But most of all, it is cheap. Shorts, t-shirt and descent shoes, and you’re good to go. I just bought a new Karrimor outfit for exactly €16,00. Can’t go wrong with that.

Now, on the other hand, you can make running as expensive as you want. To compensate the cheap outfit, I bought something I wanted for quite some time now. And since my running mates were making fun of my prehistoric chrono-watch, I decided to give the Garmin Forerunner 305 a try. I gave it a spin yesterday in the mighty Forêt de Soignes. I finally know after a training, how much km’s I exactly ran. You can also upload your training sessions and see where you have actually run! Check out my latest session here on Google Earth. Excellent. It’s working fine so far, I am only not 100% sure if the pacing is reflected accurately. Or at least updated on time when your pace suddenly drops or increases. But so far, I’ll give it an 8,5 out of 10.

Speaking of pacing, men’s most loyal four-legged friend is helping me out lately to make sure I do not slow down. It’s good fun and a welcome variation between ‘normal’ running. The ‘left’, ‘right’ and ‘turn back’ commands are going well and I am thinking of taking him to a race someday. But first build up the km’s. So far, I did a max. of 22k, but I am sure he can handle a descent 30k.

The brave do not fear the grave.
